How to tell if your WhatsApp ad actually made a sale
Clicks and likes don’t pay rent. A simple way to connect every ad to the conversations and orders it brought in — and stop paying for the ones that don’t.

You boosted a post, the notifications came in, and a few people sent “How much?” on WhatsApp. Some of them paid. Some didn’t. And some of your sales that week came from people who never saw the ad at all. So — did the ad work?
The problem with clicks
Ad platforms report what happens on their side: how many people saw the ad and how many tapped it. What happens next — the chat, the price question, the bank transfer — happens in your WhatsApp, where the platform can’t see it. That gap is where most small-business ad money disappears.
If you can’t say which ad brought the order, you can’t decide which ad to pay for again.
Give every ad its own link
The fix starts before the ad goes live. Instead of pointing every ad at the same WhatsApp number, give each one a unique link. When someone taps it, you know exactly which ad they came from before they even say hello.
Count chats, then count sales
A chat is not a sale, but it’s the step that tells you the ad reached the right people. Track both, in order:
- Chats started — people who tapped the ad and messaged you.
- Orders confirmed — chats that ended in payment. Mark them as sold when the money lands.
- Order value — what each sale was worth, so you can compare it with what you spent.
Read spent vs. earned
Now put the two numbers side by side: what the ad cost and what its orders were worth. If earned is comfortably above spent, keep it running. If it’s close, change one thing — the picture, the price in the caption, or the audience — and watch the next few days. If it’s far below, stop it and move the budget to the ad that is working.
What to do next week
Pick your two best-selling products. Run one ad for each, each with its own link. At the end of the week, compare spent vs. earned for both and keep the winner. That one habit will teach you more about your customers than any report of impressions.
